l personally have been very happy with my 9-3 since l got it 2 years ago. Its quite fast and handles very well. The Turbocharger on it definately makes it fun to drive,a nd the 3 years of free maintenance makes it super easy, and helps cut some of the cost out. That being said, l know the reliability ratings for Saabs isnt great, although l havent had a single problem in my 2 years- 26,000 miles.

SAAB is a superior car also classy looking timeless chic

they are a world apart - even tho from same country old saabs would run forever, heard too many problems with the new ones. Volvos just dont do it either, boring boring, maybe the new C30.

Be like the masses and get a BM!

Saab is GM/Vauxhall
volvo now mostly Ford (engine)

older volvos use Mitsubishi engines

l got volvo v40 and its fine - still looks nice(ish)

**do not forget you can re-programme dash so lights are not permanently on**

l had to make that decision a year ago. l went with Saab. Mainly as an ex-gmac employee l got a nice discount on the Saab.

They are both nice cars.

If l had to choose again l would probably make the same decision. l love my convertible Saab!

GM has used the Subaru chassis under the new saab body. It is a pretty good car. l think Ford bought Volvo in 02 if they did it anything the Jaguar deal they will be putting a Volvo body on the Taurus. l would go with the GM-Subaru-Saab it is a better performance chassis.

Would not recommend either. Saab never mastered their coolant system, its less reliable than a Rovers which is awfull. And Volvo r potentially great but just never get it right. l have an S80 & getting the gearbox fixed is impossible unless l am prepared to take up bank robbery to pay the bills!! The thing that really annoys me with the Volvo is its damn need to act upon safely beyond logic. Before telling me the gearbox is faulty u r not going anywhere its determined to drive me mad telling me l have not put my seat belt on. Only when l do that will it tell me it wo not move. And the whole car works in the same way, logic never existed to the designers. Somebody really got their priorities wrong with those cars.

As a Saab owner, l would not recommend them. l own a 2003 9-3 Vector & it looks great. IN THE REPAIR SHOP! The car has 32k miles & while l have not had any engine trouble l have had no success with the electronics at all. The CD changer has been replaced several times, the stereo has a mind of its own, the electronic components r constantly doing strange things & the dealerships l have dealt with simply tell me ''yeah, that is a common problem with a lot of Saabs''. In fact, that is the response l got today when it was at the dealership for a problem.

Another thing about Saabs. they definitely do not hold up well for a $30,000 car. l would expect something considered as a ''near luxury'' vehicle to be very quiet inside but mine has every imagineable squeak & rattle.

Saab, because volvos have no character and although saab is now owned by GM, Volvo is owned by Ford. You may get a better on a volvo as a direct result but, the servicing costs are astronomical. Mind you Saab is no better, but last a damn sight longer, are more comfortable and have more cool factor- Volvos scream family man that could not afford a BMW!
