l have just bought one from Ebay, it said ''When started from cold the ''check gearbox'' light illuminates and the car is in safe mode - however as soon as it is warm if restarted the light extinguishes and the car operates as normal. Have identified problem with (check gearbox) Needs new Neutral Safety Switch''

How much is it going to cost to repair this, is it something l (limited technical experience can do at home) where is the best place to buy this piece of equipment.

thanks.

You r in luck. It does take some doing but a nice person online posted exactly how to remove the switch.

There r photos & a step by step plan on how to remove this switch on a 1994 car. l have worked on cars in my past & this takes some experience, but not a ridiculous amount as long as u can follow the insturctions listed here. Good luck with it.

PS - scroll to the top of the page, that is where the instructions r located. Reading down the page it tells all the issues the repair person had with his fixes - one thing is for sure, if u need a new a cable spring for the new $115 part - as his explanation shows, trying to be cheap on it just caused him more agony & he had to take it apart multiple times to get it working correclty.

It is pretty difficult, only because it is very hard to get to some of the bolts. It is underneath the battery tray, but there is frame work under the battery tray also, and that is where the problem is for access to the bolt.

Here is a link for the part- http://eeuroparts.com/productdetail.aspx?searchResults=1&code=5255

l am a tech and do not enjoy doing this job.

As far as the repair cost best to ask your local mechanic.
