GM have developed their diesels a lot in recent years. The newer 1.9 outperforms the old 2.2 in every way. Lighter, more powerful, more economical. They now have a 220 bhp variant of the 1.9 on the test bench showing what we might expect in the near future.

If you must have a Diesel, then go for the newer, much better 1.9, but make sure it is the 150bhp model, as the 120bhp version really struggles with such a heavy car, without being any better on fuel.
I'd have a petrol turbo myself though, much quicker, smoother engine and if you've got enough money to consider running an expensive prestige car, are you really that concerned about an extra 10-15mpg?

Great looking car the SAAB, but beware. l had a 2.2tid for almost three (expensive) years. l had the choice of getting a newer one 93ss 150bhp 1.9tid but declined.
The 1.9tid engine is much better than the old 2.2tid engine & was made in association with FIAT. The same engine can be found in FIATs & Alfa Romeos.

A good start would be to visit
