Saab 9-3 K&N intake issue?
l purchased and installed the 57i series intake on my 2003 Saab 9-3 Vector. While installing l had no issues with the exception of the ''flexi cold air hose'' l did not see a very good way to install it; however, l did notice that the factory inlet of the original intake was quite large and assumed that it would be sufficient.
After installation l took the vehicle for a drive and it initially was amazing greatly exceeding my expectations; however, after the vehicle warmed up (10 min or so) it was barely able to accelerate from a stop; moreover, the check engine light came on.. l then turned off the car and allowed the car to cool down and once again it ran great until 10 min or so, then the issue repeated.
l have since put the old air box on and there are no issues; however, l greatly enjoyed the performance gained by the intake so l am hoping you can advise me on how l can fix it so l can use it.
It is the appropriate 57i kit for my car. l did unplug the battery durring install (to allow the comp to reset), and carfully installed the mass air sensor in the new tube. l did notice that the kit did not (in fact none of them) come with the crank case vent filter. So l am going to pick up some mass air sensor cleaner, and a crank case filter mabey try that....?
l talked with K&N is UK office and they thought l might have a bad mass air sensor.. any thoughts?

Is this a legitimate K&N filter, or cheap eBay crap that is passed off as K&N? if it is the latter u need to read up on how to properly modify a car before u do anything more; improper use of a poor-quality generic system will have great potential to harm performance, hurt ur car in long-term ways, etc.

From here on out, l will assume u r using a worthwhile K&N cone filter. You need the filter place somewhere in the engine bay where it will be able to suck cool or cold air; if u r sucking hot air radiating off the engine, u will cause ur engine temp to be abnormally high, causing a decrease in performance, & the possibility of blowing ur engine.

This has nothing to do with the quality of your air filter. Do not listen to the K&N police here. Your problem is quite simple. Did you unplug the mass air meter when you took out your original air box? The computer needs this to work. Your car is running like a scalded dog until the computer starts looking for the reading from the sensor. You need to find a way to keep the sensor in the path of the air tube.
