Have a 1997 Saab 900S convertible.Had it about 7 months, drives like a sweetie but the check engine light is on just about constantly.Sometimes goes off for a bit after I've filled the tank completely, comes back on later.No other problems so not overly worried, checked out some forums and seems to be needing a battery disconnection to reset the light but do not wanna start fiddling with it unnecessarily.
But just wanted to see what others think, just cos it sounds and feels ok, do not wanna suddenly have the engine seize or something cos l ignored the light.

on that one that wont make the light go off and stay off you have to use a scanner to make this one stay off,you might want to take it to auto zone or advance and have them scan it just to see what the trouble code is for it,then you,ll know what its doing,without having it scanned it will keep doing this,and it might be a simple repair to make,but you cant guess at it on this one,good luck with it.

l recommend going to Auto Zone first, they do free diagnostic test. l have had this little problem with many cars. Like 90% of the time is related to fueling the car, over fill and such. There is probably some charcoal stuck in your filtering process in your fuel tank. If so it will eventually work its self out.

Hello there. l have a 1999 saab 93.it rides great even better than the new 93's, however, the check engine light has been on since June. Also, the odometer & speedomter stopped working in April. ABS light is also on. l forgot exactly what the dealer said it was, but it would cost $2,800 to fix. It has not affected the drivablilty of the car so l have left it alone. In all honesty, l am going to try to go as long as l can & hopefully it wo not give me problems, but so far so good. Hope this helps..

Check engine light has to do with emissions. If it runs well then you may have a faulty O2 sensor or you need a new gas cap. Get it scanned at auto zone.

hi, l have had same problems with mine, but solved now. Check if u have a good vacuum seal at the fuelcap... since if it sucks air through there u will have ur check engine light going.. If ur saab has done 180.000 kms u need to change ur fuelfilter (manufacturers recommendation) And/or check all ur vacuumlines..they will more then likely have hardened up/ developed cracks/become porous/ or been knocked loose. If all this fails to solve ur problem check or have checked ur timing/ & emission gasses.

about the check engine light, GET USED TO IT.
it doesnt necesarilly mean there is something wrong with it, its just may have become a saab trademark.
i have a friend who had a saab, his check engine light kept going on frequently, he kept taking to different mechanics & because its a swedish, car the parts r very expensive to replace.
my friend bought his for seven thousand dollars & ended up topping that with another five grand jsut to try to get the light to go off, he finally found the solution when they replaced a fourty dollar valve!!
before l met this guy though, l found a good deal on a 2002 saab 95 & asked my mechanic for his opinion.
he told me to stay away from it, not becuase its a bad car, its just that the CE light does go off alot & it could be anything that triggers it, but whatever it is, it will cost a lot to repair.

basically, just let it ride is my opinion!!
