SAAB is an acronym for Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget, which translates as Swedish Aeroplanes Limited. They are a Swedish company, but were bought by GM around 1990.

SAAB started out as an aircraft manufacturer in the early 1900’s.

The first Saab car was made in 1947. The prototype for the first SAAB was finished in 1946; the car was officially launched in 1947. It had unmistakable features of aircraft engineering. Its very simple Saab and Volvo are both Swedish but the Saab 9-5 is built in Russia in the Opel Factroy and the Saab 9-3 (American version) is built in Kentucky.
