Hello, l would like to know if l can upgrade the turbo on a 03 saab 9-3 linear with a turbo that came from a 03 saab 9-3 arc or vector. would that be difficult? will the engine adopt and support the new turbo? does the computer has to be reprogrammed? the linear boosts10.5 psi for 175 hp at 5500rpm, the arc/vector boosts 12.5 psifor 210 hp at 5500rpm. do l need to replace the inter cooler and the exhaust? thank you .Sev

yes you need to get a new intercooler and exhaust if you do not want your car to blow up. l wouldnt recommend it tho

It is possible, but there r issues like reprogramming the ecu & getting all new lines going to the turbo. l would wait on this upgrade. consider an ecu upgrade instead; it is probably a lot cheaper when u consider all the parts & labor involved with upgrading the turbo. And if ur turbo ever goes out years from now & u have to replace it anyway, well, then u might consider upgrading it.

As always very few systems on cars nowadays r just bolt on.

Back in 80s, they made cars that had different options & it was sometimes just a matter of bolting a different part & out u go.

But cars today have components that r incorporated to the other systems & they communicates with each other for optimum performance. There r some aftermarket upgrades that can improve the performance of any car but most of these upgrades cost a lot with little improvement.

Remember, when doing any upgrade for performance, always start with the basics. Which is the Air intake, Exhaust system & how the engine is tunes. Installing a major Component like turbo unit may change or improve something but as u 've read from other posts here, it is not a simple task of just bolting the unit on. Despite what it may seem to be doing for the performance, it will not improve it as much as someone thinks it would.

Here is some sound advise, make sure that the basic parts such as Spark plugs, air & fuel filters & also motor oil (should be Mobil 1 5W30) r in good order. Then begin with a better intake air system & exhaust system to get improved fuel economy or to get better performance when needed. Do more research to find out what type of upgrades actually gets results. As mentioned, folks waste lots of money on upgrades that sounds good but it actually does not improve much.

Check what engine you have? Engines B207L and B207E have the same turbo, Engine B207R uses a different turbo. The best thing to do would be to buy a tuning kit for the car, that would be cheaper and would make more sense then changing parts. Check on nordictuning.com and hirschperformance.com.
