Ok, first off, l though the fuel pump relay, but that is not it, then l though ok its the fuel pump, but the fuel pump is working just fine. Then l check ignition, but its firing, it turns on for like a second, then kills off, and does not start again, what could be the problem? all the fuses are fine, relays are fine, l checked connections those are fine.

crank sensor or the wire connector on your distributor.

You may have a air leak in the intake system. Check all the tubes & air hoses. Usual problem could be the nipples popping out which r on the top & side of the intake manifold. If so, yu need new bushings. They r very cheap. But need to get them from & Saab repair shop or the dealer. It also sounds like fuel is not reaching the engine. Does the fuel pump make noise while cranking? Did u loosen fuel line at injector rail to see if fuel is getting pumped while cranking? check these issues first & report back here.

l would bet on the relay. Build a little jumper & jump the fuel pump relay. Any Saab book will show u where. Also u could have a failing feeder pump below the main pump. That would allow the main pump a small drink & then nothing. Have some one listen or put their hand on the fuel pump & see if it remains running for a moment after the engine quits?

Then there is the air cleaner which almost cannot be reached by mortal man. They never get changed & tend to fill with oil from the PVC system. Try taking the main intake off the air filter & give it a try.

I've seen ignition coils fail like that. Hook up a timing light & see if the ignition fires right on down to dead stop when it dies or does it quit firing & then it dies?

If all this is working, take the big round rubber intake off the fuel distributor & grab the center nut holding the aluminum disc. Gently lift up & run the fuel pump at the same time. It should lift smoothly & u should hear the fuel squish thru the fuel distributor.

Then of course there is the fuel filter.

l am putting my money on the fuel pump. This model of Bosch pump has a history of pressure failure. It will run fine & even deliver fuel to the rail, just not at operating pressure. Also check the pre-pump while u r in there. It does nothing more than keep the fuel pump canister full of fuel when the tank gets below a 1/4 so that u can go around a turn without dying. The down side to all of this is that u have the most costly fuel pump put in a SAAB. l have converted a number of this year to the newer, much cheaper style pump, but unless u r very handy, just replace what u have.
