I am buying a used car and l like the look of the Saab, so l would be getting one late 90s, 100,000 miles or so. l do not wanna invest however if people have had loads of problems...any general feedback? Thanks!

All cars have problems, u will not find a car in this world which is trouble free. Since u r going in for used car it will have wear & tear on it. SAAB is as vulnearable as any other car, it depends on how it has been kept all these years. If it is maintained properly do not worry. The SAAB talks to u & if u listen carefully u will know that something is going to happen well ahead of time, get it fixed, do not delay, safety & performance r firist class. Have it checked before u buy, Good luck. l am driving SAAB since 1995, lovely cars.

l have a 1992 9000CD Griffin Edition with 114,000 miles on it. It was great after l first got it and put some work into it, but since then systems have kept failing at an alarming rate. Steering is a major consideration at that mileage. Mine failed on me after l had put 1000 miles on it. My advice would be to skip it. You may get lucky, but it is more likely to be a money pit.

l got my '98, 9000T 2 years ago with 89,000 mi. I'd just hung up my '96 Mazda 626 with 190,000 mostly trouble-free miles. Saab is a good car & the turbo is incredible! It has ''charecter like all European cars (for instance, it takes a while, getting used to the ignition switch between the seats!). It is the first car I've ever had that has more legroom than l have leg! The insurance rate DROPPED a couple hundred$$, when l got it! (If u want to have a crash, a Saab is a good place to be when doing it!) The Mazda never gave me a bit of trouble for 165,000 Mi & then began wanting attending. It never got terribly expensive untill the very end ( l still have it, it still runs). The Saab was owned by a Dr. who took care of it, used the same mechanic as I. l do not run it hard but l use it a lot & it sits outside when not being used. It has not been really expensive but in the 15,000 mi I've put on it I've spent as much in maintenance /repairs as l did on the Mazda in 70,000. l would have no qualms recommending a Saab but when l replace mine, it will be with another Mazda (This time w/a Turbo, l hate spending time in the oncoming lane!). Oh yeah, Saabs r also quite luxurious, easy to get spoiled in one. One other thing: If u get a turbo, it is not a toy! It has an ungodly lot of power for a little bitty 4 cylinder! (28 MPG)

l have had 6. Currently l have a '99 9-3, & just love it. Three of them had over 250k & l spent very little keeping them up. They r very durable, fast, handle great, quirky looking, well built & fun to drive. It is key to have a good mechanic that u trust to take care of it for you. The dealer will be expensive, so find a good independent Swedish Saab repair shop. Ask other SAAB owners u encounter for referrals. l have been going to my guy in Reno for 17 years. Parts can be a bit more expensive, but they last so long that u will rarely have to replace them.
Take it to a shop & have it inspected before u buy it. Give them an hours labor & make sure the car is ok. See if the owner has service records. ALWAYS use synthetic oil & warm the car up when it is cold. You will enjoy that car for many years!

l have a 1986 Saab 900 4cyl non-turbo. For a 22 year old car, l have not had to put very much into it as far as repair costs go. It is got over 300,000 miles on it & still has its original engine, tranny.Loads of still original stuff on it. (Even the cassette tape deck!)
But like any car that old, it pays to do regular inspections on the car yourself, so do not be afraid to open that hood up as often as you'd like. l try to keep all the hoses & wires connected as snugly as possible to avoid any problems, & l always check the condition of the hoses, etc for any wear & tear. Replacing them myself is never a problem with a good car manual to help you.
