So, the owners manual says l should be using l think 91 or above octane, and as everyone knows, the price of premium gas is going through the roof.I've been really good about putting premium gasoline in since l bought the car (never below 91), but am wondering if it is a HUGE deal if l put mid or low grade in?Just trying to cut some financial corners!Any advice would be most helpful! Thanks!

you can cause damage to engine using lower than recommended octane, this will cause engine to knock and ping and it will not run well at all

l run a 95 Corvette and l run as low fuel that will not ping or rattle the motor. l have driven 130km on 87 octane and never ever a problem or knock. Still runs as new.

u can try running it on a lower octane,a lot of vehicles even though they say they should not be run on lower octane gas will run & perform really well,i have a Chevy truck that says it needs 91 octane, and it runs just fine on 87 ,you can try using it it wont hurt it to try ,then u can go up to 89 octane if it does not run good on 87 that is how l did it,i started a 91 & kept using a lower octane, and see very little difference in the way it runs & performs on 91,i also save little money by using a lower octane gas, good luck on it,

Federal law requires all manufacturers vehicles to be able to perform well using ''regular grade'' fuel. You will notice a little loss of giddyup but it will not hurt the engine. Saab engine management can sense any knock and seamlessly adjust to adapt.

l have a '02 9-3 which can take all grades. The newer models specify premium. Unless your manual indicates that it should only have premium and knocks and rattles with anything lower grade, you should be fine using regular.

Gas in LA is now $3.58/gallon for regular!
