not at all.just use fully synthetic oil and change the oil every 4000 miles.

only by virtue of the fact turbo-4 Saab's' develop abrasive ''sludge'' without regular oil changes; once go syn-oil, do not go back.

Yes. First of all, u should know if u have a 9440 type 9-3 (model year 2003 & later for the sedan or wagon, wagons did not come out until 2006, or 2004 or later convertibles). For those cars, u r supposed to use synthetic oil that meets the GM LL-A-025 standard (B instead of A for diesels). In the U.S., Mobil 1 0W40 is the only oil that meets the standard & is easily available. Castrol Syntec 0W30 European Formula & Elf Excellium Full Tech (or similar name) 0W30 is hard to find.

Changing the oil is easy. There r some photos around the internet. One of them is in cardomain.com

For a 9-3 that is not a 9440 (2002 & earlier), using Mobil 0W40 is not absolutely required but it is a decent oil. Changing the oil is about the same but slightly different. Some of these 9-3 have a 2.5 V-6.
