Not much information here to go on - what body style is it? Four door sedan or wagon? What condition? Which engine, the four cylinder or the optional V6? What part of the world? For example, a 4 cylinder 9-5 in Excellent condition four door with ur mileage in the northeast goes for $6500 on average according to KBB (Kelly Blue Book, the authority on used car values).

With these assumptions that is a good deal. However, words of warning. Saabs r notorious for being expensive to repair. In addition, the V6 is a bad deal since those have some major issues with the engine.

l have a friend who by chance owns the exact car u describe here (4 cylinder). Here is what he wrote me to post here:

'' l have owned my 1999 9-5 for since l purchased it from the original owner (was a two year old car with 40,000). The car was well maintained but recently l had to replace a water pump, clutch & front brakes with rotors. While these repairs were rather expensive compared to other cars I've owned l know that l will not need to do anything other than oil changes & a set of tires for at least the next 50K - that will take me to over 170k or more. It is a well built car, l love the performance & economy + it is fun to drive & l will likely hit 200k.''

So, although that is not a guarantee the car will last that long or be trouble free, it shows that with the right care it can be a relatively solid car with a few problems. The caveat is that buyer beware as repairs if they come can break the piggy bank.

Take the car to the dealer and have them perform a safety check. Make sure to tell them that you are interested in purchasing the vehicle. After the check has been made, have them give you a copy of the parts and labor of any repairs that the vehicle may need.

No. They eat turbos like crazy. Their D l cassettes go out, and the power seats modules burn up. I've sold hundreds of these. Buy a 2001 or newer.

Saabs last a looooong time. And they do not look like everyone else is Jap' car. Repairs are pricey, but far and between.
The 4 cyl is a good motor. l believe still the original Swedish 4 cyl from the earlier 900's, but angled diferently. The V-6s are bothersome, though.
Good luck!

My .last Saab was a 1997 900S, the one right before the 9-5. l drove it hard for 12 years & put over 300K miles on it. When l say hard l mean lots of winter driving in the northeast, pot holes salt all the nasties. It was still running when l gave it up. Give 'em a little oil & they seem to run forever.

Check for body rust, & get the car fax so u know the car has not been in a flood etc. If this car is just an older Saab that has been cared for, probably a good deal.
