Yes it is a European brand, from Sweden to be exact. SAAB 9-3 sedan and sports combi and 9-5 sedan and wagon are produced in Sweden. 9-3 convertible was produced in Finland but lately is being produced in Graz, Austria. SAAB 9-2 was based on a Subaru and was produced in Japan. The company is wholly owned by General Motors, USA.

It depends on ur definition. Traditionally, Saab was thought to be a Swedish company. The car division was sold to GM in 1990 (half) & the other half around 1999. It is currently a division of GM.

The 9-2X, made in Japan, is no longer made.

Most Saabs r made in Sweden. The convertible is made in Austria & the 9-7X is made in the U.S. In the 1960's, a few Saabs were made in Belgium. For many years, the convertible was made in Finland, along with a few other cars. The Finnish & Austrian plants r separate car companies that build cars on a contract. Porsche needed some extra factory output so they contracted with Valmet, the Finnish company that used to make some Saabs. Magner Steyer (check spelling) makes the 9-3 convertible. The company also has a contract to build the BMW X3 & Mercedes G class SUV. They essentially build vehicles that have smaller production runs. They know how to do it & make a profit whereas the larger companies have a harder time of doing it. With BMW, all their factories r running at near full capacity.

Most people consider Saab to be a European brand but the answer is more complicated if u know too many details.
