I am about to purchase a 87 Saab 900 SE Turbo convertible and I'd like to know what this babys capable of so. What is the top speed of a 87 Saab 900 Turbo? l would also like to know what the turbo does for it? Does it increase the top speed or acceleration. To: Richard D:
l have a 69 Chevelle that tops out at 185 and is in perfect condition, so do not be wuicuk to judge because of it is age.

That is a 20 year old car. How fast could your Grandmother run if you chased her with a 2x4 with a nail sticking out of it? l guarantee you will drive it to the junkyard real fast.

l had a 87 tercel wagon w/ a 3spd auto, 1.5ltr 4 cylinder n l got her up to 90..after l sold her l bought a 99 saab 9-3t w/ the 2.0ltr 4cyl l got her up to 135mph..but l know its above 100mph for your 87' saab..
FYI: make sure the car handle it 1st u dont want a wheel to fall off
i hope this helps =)

The turbo increases top speed and acceleration. l think your car can go about 115 mph. Top speed is not that high for the 1980-1993 cars. l think the non-turbo is about 105.

125ish. They were not terribly fast even with the turbo. Had a 2002 SAAB 9-3 Viggen that would go around 140ish, but it was a special edition model. As far as the Chevelle doing 185, l doubt you even have a Chevelle, because as an ACTUAL owner of a 70' chevelle, l know they wo not get anywhere close to 185. Wind resistance and gearing stops most corvettes except the newer models from even attaining that. The Chevelle is even worse for both of those.

Sounds like a sweet car if it is in decent shape. There r tons of those things still around running pretty well it seems. The top speed of the 900 turbo is 125 plus or minus. The link below is for an 85 but they're the same. Like others mentioned, it is an older car but if it is been taken care of well u should not have much trouble getting to 125 although l probably would not recommend it, haha. The turbo increases just about everything for a car. Turbos use exhaust gasses to drive an compressor to push more air into the combustion chambers of the engine. More air means more fuel can burn, & it can burn more efficiently. So u get the power of a larger engine out of a small 4-cyl. If u drove a turbo & then a non turbo 900 you'd see the difference. Good luck & enjoy the Saab!
