l have a 2001 Saab 9-5 2.3T Wagon with 110,000 miles.Usually, when the car sits overnight or for longer periods of time, it will start hard.The car will crank for a long time but not start until the second try.What is the problem?

Starter might be on the way out.

saab is a GM product.. gm installs sparks plugs from the factory that are usually only good for about 100k miles. On top of that w/ a turbo car the compression is much higher than a normal car so if your plugs are bad, it will be even worse.

simple 10 dollar fix probably.

it could be the starter, or spark plugs, try taking the plugs out and cleaning them, also dont buy spark plugs from GM, every GM product is made with the lowest quality materials, and thats why GM products always brake down, l would try to sell it and buy a car from honda or acura or lexus or toyota,

Use Spark Plugs NGK BCPR6ES-1,1. These are not GM spark plugs but are Japanese and made in Japan. In addition for starting problems, check fuel injectors, fuel pressure regulator and the D. l Cassette.

Tashfeen is got it. GM is cheapness has absolutely nothing to do with the spark plugs in the 9-5. Only only only use the NGK is specified in the owner is manual in ur car, which is probably the number Tashfeen suggested. Saab is engine management system gets a lot of information about fuel/air mixture, timing, etc. through the spark plugs & the computers r only compatible with the plugs recommended by Saab. The thing that scares people is that the NGK is r relatively cheap, so they think ''oh man, l better spend more money on the fancy platinum plugs so my car will run well'' but their cars end up running like crap & throwing check engine lights. l would also be looking at the fuel pump. I've heard of them pooping out as early as 80k miles, but the one in my 2001 9-5 is still going with 180k miles. Fuel pump symptoms r hard starts in the morning & stumbling under hard acceleration, like on a highway entrance ramp. You can have it tested with an oscilloscope, which l would recommend because the fuel pump can leave u on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, but it is not really an inexpensive part that u want to replace for preventative maintenance just because it is getting old. The starter is most likely not the culprit. Starter failure is more or less unheard of in 9-5's. It is just one of those things that lasts (probably 95% of the time) the life of the car. Good luck!

This could indicate that your fuel pump is dying. Most people that had that experience in the 9-5 ended up stranded somewhere when the fuel pump finally gave out.
