when l start the car up it makes alote of nose it sound like a race car or one of those cheap honda muffler.l wanna know is it bad the drive the car with one of the exhaust pipes bad it has rust hole on it. An is it expensive to put a new exhaust system.

It is not bad to drive the car with a noisy exhaust, but it will be tough for your car to pass a state inspection if there is a hole in the system! Sometimes a good muffler shop could possibly patch that up for you for less money than to replace the whole thing.

A car with a exhaust leak will have poor gas mileage. It will also run hotter than usual due to back pressure caused by the exhaust leak. You do not need to replace the entire exhaust system to fix this.

You should at least find out what is leaking by looking under the car while it is running & check for leaks.

Use original equipment or original manufacturer parts only, ur saab will run better & u ll get the best possible gas mileage. Bosal & Starla r both Saab original equipment manufacturers. Most mufflers from Saab cost about $250-300 each plus installation. You can get the same part at aftermarket rate for about %45 less. There is also an intermediate pipe that goes bad & it costs about $165.

Like l said u do not need to replace the entire system. Find out the exact source of the leak & only replace that item.

Please always try to specify which SAAB you are talking about. 900 or 9000 up to 98 and later 9-5 or 9-3 or 9-3 SS. Normally SAAB exhausts come in 3 pieces, thus you need to replace only the piece which is damaged, you may check on genuinesaab.com for prices. Never try to patch a SAAB exhaust as it is not a solution rather you will spend money for nothing as the turbo fumes will cut through this patched up part like a hot knife through butter.

Your car has a flex pipe section after the header section of the exhaust. They fail all the time. Most muffler shops can replace this part for under $75.
